The Royal Wedding!

Setting my alarm for 5:30 to watch Will and Kate get hitched seemed like a grand idea. If only I knew that the people who live in the appartment above me would decide to move furniture, scream and shout, stomp their feet, drop bowling balls and so forth until around four o'clock when I was woken up. So I decided to truck out to the kitchen, pour myself a glass of Tropicana and see if the news coverage on the most anticipated event in decades had started. Much to my surprise, most of the wedding guest were already in their seats at Wesminster Abby and waiting for the nuptuals to begin.

So to my great pleasure I got to see some of the amazing fashion happening inside the Abby. I absolutely adore the huge trend, made popular by the new bride herself, which was worn by nearly every woman in attendance. Yes thats right, 'Fascinators'! They came in every shape, colour and variety. From the more quaint to the completely ostentatious. One of my favourites being worn by Princess Beatrice of York, pictured below.

Her look was very 'of the moment' and had a certain grandeur to it without being gaudy like this lady dressed head to toe in blue...

Another classic Royal Wedding look was worn by a pregnant Victoria Beckham looking ever so sleek and stylish. Her fascinator looked to me like the largest one at the wedding but it still managed to look demure because of the colour and because of her understated dress and jewelry. * Kudos goes to Mrs. Beckham for being able to wear those shoes while being well along in her pregnancy.

Kate, however, is known for taking tradition in stride and working her own style into the equasion but as for her wedding gown choice I think she chose something that suited her personality well and also incorporated a classic twist. Having said that, I was disappointed when I saw her go from the safety of the canopy at the Goring Hotel to board her car that would take her to the chapel. In that moment I, along with everyone else in the world, saw the first glimps of the Alexander McQueen dress. And I have to admit I wasn't impressed at first. I had pictured in my head something a little more becoming of a future Queen. Perhaps something more couture? I guess being in her shoes she didn't want to make it look like she was trying too hard or trying to overshadow Diana's dress. I also wasn't a fan of the veil but to each her own I suppose.

I am slowly growing to like the dress she chose and will have to come to terms with it being copied and over publicised to high heaven. Karl Lagerfeld gave the veil a glowing review so I guess it just depends on personal preference. After all, I can say what I want without the world finding out (or caring) but Karl on the other hand, cannot.
